Capital Park to experience 5-hour power outage this weekend

One of the transformers requires maintenance to prevent a potential breakdown.

Residents in and around the Moot area are expected to experience power interruptions on October 11, as maintenance work will be carried out at the Capital Park Substation.

The metro’s Energy and Electricity Business Unit will carry out essential maintenance work at the substation from 09:00 until 13:00.

The 132/11kV – 35MVA power transformer cable end box is expected to be worked on as a matter of urgency to prevent a catastrophic breakdown.

The Capital Park Substation has no backup transformer for alternative supply due to abnormal load on the network, and thus, a shutdown of the power supply is inevitable.

In the northern area, Theresapark, Mountain View, Ninapark, parts of Sinoville, Tileba, Mayville, Wolmer, Clarina, Klerksoord, Gezina, Winternest, Bon Accord, Wonderboom North, Magalieskruin, Onderstepoort, Pretoria North, and the Pyramid Area will be affected.

Capital Park, Pretoria Gardens, Booysens, and Daspoort in the west will also experience a blackout, as will areas fed by the GV, BL, and SP power lines.

Residents are urged to always treat all network points as live, including during the electricity supply interruption period. For all enquiries, contact 012 358 9999 and select option 3.
