Seniors enjoy estate’s Oktoberfest
In true Oktoberfest culture, the festival featured live performances by an Oompah band.
In the spirit of Oktoberfest, the Bergvallei Retirement Estate hosted a two-day beer festival for 50+ seniors in Montana, Pretoria North.
People who came from far and wide enjoyed the festival in true Oktoberfest style, sharing the spirit of community with food and drink, a real oompah band and camaraderie.

On October 11-12, attendees were treated to several different kinds of beers, German sausages, freshly-baked pretzels and a live performance by the oompah band while enjoying the Bushveld atmosphere.

Estate marketing manager Martie van Bavel said having a social life is very important for retirees, not only with other elderly people, but also to meet and mingle with the families of others.
“If we really look, people who stay on their own and don’t have a social life or sense of community, they get older quickly. We work hard to try to build an active social life for the people because it really helps them,” Van Bavel said.

This was the estate’s first beer fest. It also hosts different themed events which are open to the public each month, last month being the Boermark and Boerdance, and next month being a Christmas Market.
