Sinoville pool reopens after metro completes vital repairs
The Deon Malherbe Swimming Pool is open again after electrical and plumbing repairs, with officials confirming that all safety and quality checks have been met.
Sinoville residents have reason to celebrate as the metro has announced that the Deon Malherbe Swimming Pool is now fully operational.
The facility, which had been closed for essential repairs, has undergone a successful restoration process and passed all safety and functionality tests.
Metro spokesperson Lindela Mashigo confirmed that all systems at the pool have been tested to ensure that it is safe and ready for use.
“The metro is pleased to confirm that services at the Deon Malherbe Swimming Pool in Sinoville, Region 2 (northern), have been fully restored and the facility is operational from today.”

The pool’s reopening comes after several days of intensive technical work involving electrical and plumbing repairs, refilling of the pool, and recalibration of key mechanical systems.
According to the metro, the temporary closure was caused by an unexpected electrical malfunction that affected the pool’s pumping system, forcing officials to suspend operations to prevent further damage.
Mashigo said the process required careful monitoring to ensure the water quality and mechanical operations met all municipal safety and quality standards.
“The metro’s personnel have worked assiduously over the past few days to complete the necessary electrical and plumbing repairs, monitor the refilling process, and restore functionality to components of the pool system.
“Their commitment and teamwork ensured that the facility could be brought back online in the shortest possible time.”

Ward 50 Councillor Lenise Breytenbach said the reopening will bring great relief to the community.
“It’s good that they’re taking action and start giving back what taxpayers are paying for. It’s a pity that the municipality just leaves things unattended until residents sign petitions and they fight for their rights.
“We’ve got quite a lot of businessmen who have contracts with the metro to get children to exercise for championships, and they couldn’t participate because the swimming pools were not up to standard,” said Breytenbach.
The metro expressed its appreciation to the Sinoville community for their understanding and co-operation during the repair period.
“Your co-operation made it possible for teams to complete their work safely and efficiently. We invite residents to once again enjoy this much-loved recreational facility,” it said.
