Residents urged to join upcoming Brooklyn CPF sector elections
Community members are encouraged to step forward as sector representatives to help strengthen safety efforts amid rising burglaries and vehicle thefts this festive season.
The Brooklyn CPF is encouraging residents to take part in their upcoming annual general meetings (AGMs), where elections for new sector representatives will be held.
According to Brooklyn CPF chairperson Rudy Brown, all four policing sectors in the Brooklyn precinct will soon hold their AGMs to elect community members into leadership positions.
“We encourage all residents of the areas to be part of the elections,” Brown said.
“There are still open positions in several sectors, and we’re looking for dedicated individuals who want to play an active role in improving safety in their communities.”
Brown confirmed that Sector 1 currently does not have a chairperson, a position that will be filled during the upcoming elections.
“The alleged claims that Sector 1 does not have a chairperson are correct. We will be re-electing a new chairperson for Sector 1 soon,” he said.
He noted that sectors 2, 3, and 4 remain strong and active, but added that most sectors are still in need of youth co-ordinators to help strengthen youth involvement in community safety structures.
Brown said that anyone interested in joining the CPF should either live or operate a business within the sector and must not have a criminal record.
He confirmed that the CPF remains well-equipped and continues to collaborate closely with security companies and local patrollers to curb crime.
“We work closely with security companies, and patrollers in each sector patrol the area at night to monitor suspicious activity,” he explained.
However, Brown warned that house burglaries and vehicle thefts have been on the rise in recent weeks as the festive season approaches.
“Crime trends are increasing at the moment,” he said.
“We’re seeing more break-ins and car thefts, especially as people start going away for holidays.”
Brown urged residents to be proactive about their safety.
“Make sure your alarm systems are working properly and that you have a reputable security company for emergency response,” he said.
SAPS will issue official notices once the AGM dates for all four sectors have been finalised.
