Water supply disruption in Montana this Wednesday for maintenance

Critical maintenance will be conducted on the Montana water network on October 29, causing temporary supply interruptions. Residents are advised to store water and conserve usage.

The Tshwane metro has announced that its Water and Sanitation Business Unit will carry out major maintenance and upgrading work on the water supply network in parts of Montana on October 29.

The essential work, which forms part of the metro’s ongoing infrastructure maintenance programme, is expected to last for nine hours, from 08:00 until 17:00, and will result in temporary water supply interruptions in several extensions.

According to the metro, one of the maintenance operations will take place in Montana Ext 162, on the corner of Third and Dr Van Der Merwe Road.

The affected areas include Montana Ext 84, 99, and 163, as well as Dr Van Der Merwe Road between Jeugd and Rooibos roads.

Tshwane spokesperson Lindela Mashigo said about 164 stands are expected to experience water interruptions during the scheduled maintenance period.

At the same time, another team of technicians will be conducting similar maintenance and upgrade work in Montana Ext 206, along Klippan Road between Dr Swanepoel and Veronica roads.

This operation is also expected to last for nine hours, with water interruptions likely to affect Montana Ext 133 and 134, and properties located between Dr Swanepoel and Veronica roads. In this area, 12 stands and 65 households will be affected.

Mashigo said the planned maintenance is part of efforts to enhance the reliability and quality of water supply infrastructure in the rapidly developing Montana area.

“The municipality apologises for the inconvenience that may be caused by the planned work and urges residents to store sufficient water in advance.

“These upgrades are essential to ensure sustainable service delivery and reduce future disruptions,” said Mashigo.

Residents are encouraged to adopt water conservation measures as part of their daily routines.

These include avoiding garden watering between 06:00 and 18:00, not washing vehicles with hosepipes, and not filling swimming pools.

The metro further urges residents to use grey water for gardening and toilet flushing, and to install water-saving devices such as low-flow shower heads, tap aerators, and dual-flush toilet cisterns.

Residents can report water-related incidents such as leaks, burst pipes, and blocked street sewers by contacting 012 358 9999 or 080 1111 556.

Illegal water connections can be reported to 012 358 9060, while account enquiries can also be directed to 012 358 9999.
