Five robbery suspects arrested after car chase

Spotting a suspicious vehicle after being alerted of a recent business robbery, police gave chase and recovered a firearm reported stolen from the Olifantsfontein Police Station and seized the grey Nissan Micro.

Pretoria West Police Station’s Crime Prevention Unit arrested five suspected robbers after a vehicle pursuit and a shootout on October 28.

The officers, who were on patrol, spotted a suspicious vehicle in the area after being alerted of a recent business robbery.

After attempting to pull the vehicle over, a chase ensued.
According to police spokesperson Constable Sibongile Vuma, the officers chased the suspect’s vehicle, and shots were fired by the suspects.

The suspects’ car was stopped, with the help of Vision Tactical, a private security company. The car crashed into a wall, and stopped on Luttig Street in Pretoria West.

Three of the suspects attempted to flee on foot, but were caught. All five suspects were arrested and detained at Pretoria West police station.

During a search of the vehicle, a firearm was recovered that was discovered to have been stolen from a National Traffic Police member early in October.

The grey Nissan Micra was seized, as it had been used in the commission of the crime, and was booked into the vehicle pound.

The suspects were charged with business robbery, possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition, and possession of suspected stolen property.
