West police recover 5 stolen vehicles over 3 days
One of the vehicles was stripped in search of a tracker, causing the suspects to flee.
Pretoria West police have recovered five stolen vehicles that have been linked to various cases and are urging motorists to exercise more caution as the festive season begins.
Members of Vispol Support and the Crime Prevention Unit recovered the vehicles during stop-and-search operations between November 12–15.
The first vehicle recovered on November 12 was a white Kia K2700, and the second was a white Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid, stolen in Garsfontein and recovered in the Lotus Gardens area.
The third was a white Honda Ballade, reported to have been hijacked in the Welkom area, found with one male suspect on WF Nkomo street on November 14.
“The fourth vehicle was a Toyota Hilux that was recovered at Lotus Gardens, 115 Mokoena Street, which was found about to be stripped as they were trying to locate the tracker. The suspect fled the scene.
“The last vehicle recovered by the shift patrollers [was] a white Mercedes-Benz, with a case opened at the Brooklyn police station and booked at the SAPS vehicle pound in Pretoria West,” Pretoria West police spokesperson, Constable Sibongile Vuma said.
Station commander, Colonel Margaret Nkwane, applauded the members on the successful recoveries.
“We are very pleased with the recoveries, including the one opened at our station recovered in Atteridgeville. We encouraged our members to continue working swiftly, considering their safety first at all costs.

Furthermore, we want to urge all motorists to be extra vigilant during this festive season while driving around areas they are not familiar with to avoid stopping and asking directions, rather find the nearest police station or the filling stations for their safety,” Nkwane said.
