Trim Park ready for festive season
A recent walkabout confirmed that maintenance teams are prioritising grass cutting and repairs to prepare the park for family events and children’s activities.
Ward 50 residents can look forward to celebrating the festive season in a clean and welcoming community space.
Councillor Lenise Breytenbach has reassured residents that the Trim Park will be fully prepared, tidy, and safe ahead of the much-anticipated SNW Street Carols taking place on December 5.
Breytenbach conducted a walkabout of the Trim Park earlier this week to inspect its current state, particularly in light of the rainy weather that has slowed down routine maintenance in many parts of the metro.
Despite these challenges, she said the park would be in top condition for families and children who flock to the area during the holiday period.
She also confirmed that grass-cutting schedules were being prioritised to ensure the park is both aesthetically pleasing and safe for the festive gatherings planned by the community.
During her inspection, the councillor was approached by a group of children affectionately referred to as ‘elves’, who joined her in her rounds.
Their enthusiasm, she said, was a reminder of the importance of keeping community spaces accessible and enjoyable for young people, especially during the holiday season.
“Trim Park is an important part of our community, particularly at this time of year. I want residents to know that the park will be clean, well-maintained and ready for everyone to enjoy throughout the festive season.”
Resident Petro Badenhorst expressed relief and appreciation for the councillor’s proactive approach.
He emphasised the importance of safe public spaces where children can play while families gather for year-end celebrations.
“We love bringing our kids here, especially during December. Hearing that the councillor is making sure it’s cleaned and looked after gives us peace of mind,” he said.
Breytenbach said beyond the Street Carols event, Trim Park remains a central hub for outdoor activities, family outings, and informal community gatherings.
She said ensuring its cleanliness is not only essential for holiday festivities, but also contributes to the overall well-being of the neighbourhood.
“Overgrown grass, litter, and damaged equipment pose hazards, particularly for children. With the rainy season encouraging rapid vegetation growth, timely maintenance has become even more critical,” she said.
Breytenbach shared that, to avoid any delays, she has also communicated directly with municipal teams and escalated requests to ensure that maintenance work remains on track.
She has encouraged residents to report any urgent issues and assured them that her office will respond as quickly as possible during this busy time.
