Music and memories as Droomland transforms Botanical Garden
Pretoria’s beloved alternative music festival lit up the Botanical Garden this weekend, drawing thousands of dreamers, dancers and die-hard fans for a day of music, colour and connection.
Droomland made its triumphant return to the Pretoria Botanical Garden on November 29.
More than 10 000 attendees flocked to the event, turning the usually tranquil space into a kaleidoscope of flags, fairy lights and sprawling picnic blankets.
With a line-up featuring Spoegwolf, Fokofpolisiekar, Will Linley, Droomsindroom, Robbie Wessels, Elandré, Die Piesangskille and Glaskas, festivalgoers had no shortage of music to lose themselves in.
This year’s theme, “a garden of music where memories find sound and colour”, came alive as crowds drifted from stage to stage, golden beers in hand, soaking in the late-afternoon sun and the promise of connection.

For many, Droomland is more than just a festival.
One of the attendees, Joanet Delport, said that it is the one place where you can switch off from everything and just breathe again.
“You arrive tired, but you leave full,” said Delport.

Another festivalgoer, Jessica Briel, said the atmosphere is what keeps her coming back.
“Everyone here is just free. You can be yourself, you can dance badly, and you can cry to a song. No one judges. Droomland feels like home for a day.”
She said this year’s edition outdid itself.
“The line-up is unreal. And the fact that there are more chill corners and safe spaces shows how much the organisers care. It’s wild but wholesome at the same time.”

By sunset, the garden had completely transformed, with guitars echoing between the trees, crowds singing in unison, and friends old and new sharing blankets, stories and cigarette breaks under festival lights.

Droomland promised to break records and heal hearts, and judging by the faces leaving through the gates long after the final chord faded, it delivered exactly that.
