14-hour water interruption in Waterkloof on Thursday

The city will connect a new pipeline to the existing network, affecting several suburbs for most of the day.

Residents in parts of Waterkloof and surrounding areas are urged to prepare for a planned water supply interruption on December 4, as the metro continues upgrades to its water network.

According to metro spokesperson Lindela Mashigo, the Water and Sanitation Business Unit will be carrying out the connection of a newly installed pipeline to the existing water system.

The work is scheduled to take place from 08:00 to 22:00, lasting about 14 hours.

Waterkloof, Waterkloof 376-JR, Waterkloof Ridge, and Waterkloof Ridge Ext 1 will be affected.

Mashigo said the interruption is necessary to improve water infrastructure and ensure long-term reliability of supply to the suburbs.

“The city apologises for the inconvenience that may arise from this planned work and appreciates residents’ understanding and co-operation,” Mashigo said.

Residents are urged to store sufficient water ahead of the shutdown and to use water sparingly throughout the day.

Mashigo reminded the community to continue adopting water-saving habits, especially during planned maintenance.

“We encourage residents to make water conservation part of their everyday lifestyle,” he said.

He urged locals to save water by installing low-flow shower heads and tap aerators, where possible, and using dual-flush toilet cisterns.

Outside, water can be saved by planting indigenous or drought-resistant shrubs, using a broom instead of a hosepipe when cleaning driveways or patios, collecting rainwater to reuse in the garden or to wash the car, and covering the swimming pool to reduce water evaporation.

Residents are urged to take quick showers, rather than bathing, close running taps while brushing teeth or shaving, and regularly check toilets and taps for leaks.

Residents can report no water supply, burst pipes, leaking meters or blocked sewers on 012 358 9999 or 080 1111 556, and illegal water connections on 012 358 9060.

Non-payment can be discussed on 012 345 8514, and account enquiries can be reached on 012 358 9999.

Mashigo thanked residents for their co-operation and urged them to remain mindful of water use as the metro continues with essential upgrades to strengthen the network.
