Animal shelter’s fundraiser shines light on unsung heroes

A small team with a big mission finally gets the recognition it deserves as the community rallies to support the Soshanguve Animal Shelter’s work and year-end needs.

The Soshanguve Animal Shelter, located in Onderstepoort, hosted a heartfelt fundraiser on Sunday to raise awareness and secure enough food and funding to carry the animals through the end of the year.

Although the shelter has been operating for two years, many residents remain unaware of the extraordinary work the team does behind the scenes. The work is driven by long hours, limited resources and the unwavering dedication of founder, Tebogo Maredi.

Event organiser Rita Botha said the day was about far more than collecting donations.

Soshanguve Animal Shelter has been running for two years, and people are not aware of the amazing work and long hours, dedicated Tebogo Maredi has given.

“Today’s fundraiser was for two goals: for awareness, and to make sure they have enough food and money to end the year on a high note,” she said.

Botha added that the shelter’s impact goes beyond animal rescue.

“Soshanguve Animal Shelter is so much more than just a shelter. They are a small team, but a team with a vision, and they operate with the highest respect and love for one another and the animals.”

According to Botha, the shelter does so much for the community and especially for the animals.

She described Maredi and his team as true everyday champions.

“Honestly, I wish I could do more for them. I wish there were more people in the world like Tebogo and his team. I pray that we make a lot of people aware of this shelter and that people will open up their hearts for these animals.”

She said on her side, the fundraiser was to give back to Marodi and thank him and his team for all their hard work and dedication.

“They make this world a better place. They make a difference. They are the heroes of society, and I feel grateful and blessed to know them.”

Residents who would like to help the shelter can drop off donations, including food, blankets, toys, and other essentials, at 525 Berglaan, Pretoria North, where contributions will be delivered to the shelter once a week.

Botha urged the community to spread the word about the shelter’s true location in Onderstepoort, ensuring animals in need receive help quickly and efficiently.
