Art fundraiser aids quadriplegics’ home

Two of the 11 residents who are currently residing in the home are mouth and foot painters.

A home for quadriplegics at Parktown estate in Pretoria held a fundraising exhibition of mouth and foot paintings on Saturday.

The Lat Wiel Self Help Centre for Quadriplegics held the event to raise funds for the home, as it is under great financial strain to meet daily needs.

The fundraising event was held at Spyke Net printing in Mayville from 10:00 until late.

One of the organisers, Annelize Beila, said the centre desperately needs funds to keep the home running, paying for services and their care workers.

Beila said the centre has amazing residents, among whom are two mouth and foot painters.

In support of the fundraising event, Christo Viljoen from Bernie’s Joint in Silverton showcased classic cars to give flair and lift the spirit of the event.

He also purchased a mouth painting by Lizette de Beer from the home.

The home is calling on residents for assistance with donations, their time, and kindness.

Beila added that the home’s wish list includes groceries, meat, vegetables, fruits, petrol, and gas maintenance cleaning products.

Mrs SA Deaf finalist, Marli Lubbe, also attended the event, along with Solidarity Bikers, and singing duo Don Themba and Cecilia Jane, who entertained the guests with their lovely music.

The house is located at 123 Green Street, Park Estate in Pretoria and has been in existence for 42 years. Currently, it houses 11 residents.

Beila appealed to the public and companies to help generate funds to pay their staff better salaries and keep the home running.
