Support local tourism this festive season, residents and visitors urged

Through its festive season staycation campaign, the metro encourages residents and visitors to explore the capital’s rich heritage, diverse neighbourhoods, outdoor attractions, and vibrant cultural scene.

The Tshwane metro has officially launched its festive season staycation campaign, ‘Discover Tshwane: Your City, Your Adventure’.

The campaign encourages residents and visitors to Gauteng to explore the capital’s rich heritage, diverse neighbourhoods, outdoor attractions, and vibrant cultural scene throughout the December and January festive season period.

Sarah Mabotsa, MMC for Economic Development and Spatial Planning, said the campaign showcases free as well as affordable activities, family-friendly experiences, local markets, outdoor routes, and community events across all regions of the city.

“From nature reserves and botanical gardens to township food culture, heritage precincts, nightlife, and world-class public spaces, Discover Tshwane positions the capital as an accessible, exciting festive destination with diverse offerings and experiences.”

Mabotsa explained that the ‘Discover Tshwane: Your City, Your Adventure’ campaign is designed to showcase Tshwane’s wide range of diverse, exciting experiences and adventures that are available right on the doorstep.

“Residents don’t need to travel far or spend excessively to enjoy a memorable holiday season. Our city offers nature, culture, food, creativity, and entertainment for every budget,” she explained.

“The festive programme includes weekly staycation guides, highlight routes, themed itineraries, and showcases travel deals, events and holiday promotions from tourism partners, attractions, creative communities, and small businesses,” she added.

Mabotsa said the campaign will feature events, deals, guides, and curated suggestions for residents and visitors.

“The City of Tshwane invites all communities to rediscover their city: one street market, trail, museum, meal, or neighbourhood adventure at a time,” said Mabotsa.

Residents and visitors can follow the campaign and get involved by sharing their holiday experiences, photos and videos on the city’s official tourism social media pages @DiscoverTshwane and using the #DiscoverTshwane, #YourCityYourAdventure, and #ThisIsTshwane hashtags.

A full list of events, routes and guides is available on www.discovertshwane.com and the metro’s tourism social media pages.

Mabotsa said the metro drives initiatives that strengthen local tourism, support township and small businesses, promote cultural and natural heritage, and position the capital city as a world-class, inclusive and affordable destination for residents and visitors alike.

“Tourism is one of the 10 priority economic sectors earmarked for support and growth as part of the Tshwane Economic Revitalisation Strategy.”

She stressed that the metro is South Africa’s safest city, as shown in the latest SA cities networks state of urban safety report, and also the fastest-growing metro in South Africa.

“We welcome our families and visitors to come and explore Tshwane’s amazing sites, from the World Heritage Site of the Union Buildings, through to our amazing nature and game reserves, cultural and other heritage sites,” said Mabotsa.
