Suspected drug dealer’s case postponed
The suspect was apprehended last week following police receiving a tip-off regarding his activities and initiating an investigation.
Following a recent drug bust in Gezina, accused drug dealer Mkingie Imani Khamis (40) appeared before the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on January 19.
During July last year, the Pretoria-based Serious Organised Crime Investigation (SOCI) team received information about Khamis’ alleged illegal drug operation in Pretoria.
Their investigation led the Hawks’ SOCI team, working together with the Tshwane Drug Unit, to the accused’s premises in Gezina, Pretoria.
“Upon arrival, the police searched the premises and discovered drugs (crystal meth) inside the accused’s bedroom, with an estimated value of R1.8-million. The accused was apprehended and made his first appearance in court today,” said Lieutenant Colonel Christopher Singo.
The case against Khamis has been postponed to January 22 for a bail application.
The Provincial Head of the Hawks in Gauteng, Major-General Ebrahim Kadwa, commended the officers for conducting a thorough investigation that led to the discovery of drugs and the arrest of the suspect.
“We want to send a strong warning to those involved in criminal activities, especially those dealing in drugs, that it will not be tolerated.
“We also encourage the public to work with the police and continue to provide information about illegal drug-related activities happening within their communities,” Kadwa said.
