12 suspects arrested during Saulsville raid

Police also recovered drugs and guns during the search, and linked three suspects to a recent robbery.

Tshwane District police recently apprehended 12 suspects during a hostel search operation in Saulsville, Atteridgeville.

The raid, which took place on January 21, also resulted in the recovery of firearms and drugs.

The 12 suspects were arrested for possession of drugs, dealing in dagga, possession of dangerous weapons, dealing in liquor without a licence, and contravention of the Immigration Act.

Three of the suspects arrested were also wanted for an armed robbery that was committed earlier this month.

Provincial SAPS spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo said the discoveries were quickly made when police gained access to the rooms.

“Upon searching the rooms at the hostel, police found a revolver, eight dagga ziplock bags and a replica firearm. Liquor was confiscated as the police closed down an unlicensed liquor outlet,” Masondo said.

The operation was planned and executed under the command of the District Commissioner of Tshwane, Major-General Samuel Thine and included officers from various SAPS units across the district and the TMPD.

Thine expressed his appreciation to all participating departments and stakeholders for their continued collaboration and commitment.

He reaffirmed the SAPS’s dedication to ensuring the safety and security of all Tshwane residents, stating that lawlessness will not be tolerated.

The operation had coincided with a mass shooting that took place around 13:00 on the same day, which saw five people shot and killed outside a tuck shop in Jeffsville, Atteridgeville. Police are still searching for suspects in this case.
