According to a social media post by the metro police’s communication unit, TMPD officers noticed suspicious activity at a scrapyard on President Burger Street.

“The officers swiftly secured the premises and requested to speak with the owner for identification and permission to search.

“During a search, two bags of copper hidden in a dog cage were found. The suspects could not produce legal documentation for the copper or provide reasonable explanations for their possession of it,” the post read.

The suspects then attempted to bribe the officers with R5 000.

The suspects were immediately arrested for possession of 98kg of suspected stolen copper cables with a street value of R18 000 and bribery.
