‘Onward and upward’: Ward 2 recognised for service and community unity
Grassroots activism and organised community action have placed Pretoria North’s Ward 2 among the region’s top-performing wards.
Ward 2 has been recognised as one of the top-performing wards in the region after receiving a prestigious accolade at the 2026 Gauteng North DA Regional Congress.
The ward that covers Pretoria North has been recognised for its outstanding commitment to community organisation, activism, and member mobilisation.
The award honoured the ward branch that consistently went beyond expectations in organisational discipline, grassroots activism and active involvement of its members in community initiatives.
The recognition highlights the impact of co-ordinated community work and dedicated local leadership.
Ward 2 councillor Quentin Meyer described the recognition as a collective achievement driven by ordinary residents who continuously step up to serve their community.
“This accolade is not about one individual or a title. It belongs to every branch member and resident who chooses to be active, disciplined and committed to improving our ward,” said Meyer.
He said Ward 2 has shown that when people work together with purpose, real progress is possible.
“Our branch went beyond what was expected because our community believes in service, accountability, and unity.”
The 2026 Gauteng North DA Regional Congress brought together branches from across the region to reflect on organisational growth, community impact and mobilisation efforts.
Ward 2 stood out for its consistent activism, well-structured branch operations and strong participation in local campaigns, clean-up projects and community engagements.
Meyer added that faith and shared values also play a major role in keeping the branch grounded and focused on service delivery.
“We remain grateful for the strength and wisdom God continues to give us. It is this foundation that allows us to serve our community with humility, passion and integrity,” he said.

He said the award doesn’t mean all those responsible for the ward must drag their feet.
“When I took office, I promised to work hard for this community. This is just the beginning. The ward deserves better as it was neglected in the past.”
The ward continues to face challenges, including persistent power and water outages, dysfunctional streetlights, title deed issues, potholes and illegal dumping.
The recognition has further motivated branch members to continue strengthening community structures and expanding their outreach initiatives.
Meyer said the focus now is to build on the momentum and ensure that service to residents remains the top priority.
“This award encourages us to do even more. Onward and upward, together we are stronger,” he said.
Meyer acknowledged residents and volunteers who are always on the ground and keeping the spaces clean.
“From cleaning our sidewalks, parks and ensuring that with little they [residents] have, those in need receive donations, this just shows the unity within this community.
“We have generous organisations in the ward that advocates for better life of those in needy and we can only be stronger together if we continue in this manner.”
