Detours in place after temporary Piering Road closure

Councillor Lida Erasmus says final work at the intersection of Piering Road and Boeing Street is underway. Motorists are advised to drive cautiously, adhere to temporary signage, and start trips earlier to avoid delays.

Motorists travelling along Piering Road and Boeing Street are advised to expect disruptions following the temporary closure of the western section of Piering Road from the Boeing intersection.

The closure took effect on February 19 and is expected to remain in place for at least seven days, allowing for the completion of final work at the intersection as part of the ongoing road upgrade project.

Ward 47 councillor Lida Erasmus confirmed that the closure forms part of the project’s final phase as construction work begins winding down.

“The project is now winding down, and final work is being carried out at different intersections,” said Erasmus.

Motorists are being redirected via Allandale Street and Halifax Avenue while work is underway.

Erasmus encouraged allowing extra travel time and using the detour routes to avoid unnecessary delays during peak hours.

She further urged motorists to exercise caution while travelling through the affected areas.

“We ask motorists to start their trips early, drive safely and remain patient as the project nears completion. It is almost done, and we are on the cusp of finalising the work,” she added.

The temporary closure is expected to impact commuters who rely on the route, particularly during morning and afternoon traffic periods.

Road users are reminded to adhere to all temporary road signs and traffic management measures that have been put in place to ensure the safety of both motorists and construction workers.

“Residents will be notified should there be any changes to the duration of the closure,” said Erasmus.

She has appealed to the public for co-operation as the final stages of the project are completed.
