Hope Market: Where local talent meets community spirit

The market is looking to collaborate with more NGO/NPOs to host fundraising markets once a month.

Around 20 vendors showcased their various goods this weekend at the Hope Market hosted at the Malhuis Pub in Capital Park.

Attendees had the opportunity to enjoy loads of stalls, delicious food, arts and crafts, jewellery, animal products, home-made products, home décor, perfumes, clothing, and much more.

Market organiser and founder of the Wack Shack Rage Room, Lydia Pieterse, says the market started as an initiative to help change the world one person at a time.

“I want to bring the change the world needs, so if I lead by example, it can be an influence to other people. We host the market here every Saturday at Malhuis, but once a month, we organise a market dedicated to an NPO. So, next week on the 28th, the market will be for Moeggesukkel, an NGO that helps the less fortunate with housing, feeding, reconciling, and creating job opportunities,” Pieterse said.

The Hope Market started in June last year when Pieterse saw a cry for help from the Wollies Animal Shelter regarding a shortage of dog food.

Following the Wollies fundraiser, she was later contacted by Mulhuis and asked to bring the rage rooms and the market during a time when they needed a new space.

“We’re planning to get some big singers involved, as well as large content creators, to do meet-and-greets, and the vendors will get more support. Next month, it’s another market for Wollies, and I just get that feeling of who can we help next,” Pieterse added.
