Wanted fuel theft suspect nabbed in north of Pretoria operation

A suspect linked to multiple fuel theft cases was arrested after a coordinated operation by security teams and police in the Sinoville area.

A suspect wanted in connection with multiple fuel theft incidents was arrested in the Sinoville policing area on June 18, following a co-ordinated operation by ProShield Security Services and SAPS.

According to ProShield Security Services, the suspect was travelling in a grey-blue Nissan Micra that had been linked to two separate fuel theft incidents at ProShield clients.

Mark Surgeon of ProShield Security Services said the breakthrough came shortly after 15:00 when one of ProShield’s drone units and a tactical unit identified the vehicle travelling west along Sefako Makgatho Drive.

Security officers discretely followed the car, while additional resources were deployed to assist.

Surgeon said backup units, including a Tactical Unit, and two response units, joined the operation.

A co-ordinated intervention was then carried out, resulting in the successful interception of the vehicle without any injuries or damage.

SAPS members were immediately notified and dispatched to the scene. The suspect was arrested and transported to Sinoville SAPS for further investigation.

During the investigation, police allegedly established that the suspect was wanted in connection with a number of offences, including multiple fuel theft cases as well as livestock theft.

Surgeon commended the members involved in the operation and highlighted the importance of intelligence-driven investigations and teamwork.

“This arrest demonstrates the value of proactive investigations, vigilant patrols, and effective co-operation between private security and law enforcement agencies.

“Our members remained professional throughout the operation and ensured that the suspect was apprehended safely without putting the public at risk,” said Surgeon.

He added that the successful arrest should serve as a warning to criminals operating in the area.

“We remain committed to protecting our clients and communities. Criminals must know that we will continue to use every available resource to track down those involved in criminal activities and assist SAPS in bringing them to justice,” he said.

The suspect remains in police custody while investigations continue.
