True Faith Values

A very wealthy man took his son on a trip to a small town. They went to visit one of the poorer farmers who farmed close to the town. The fathers plan was to show his son how poor people actually lived. While visiting with the poor farmer and his family, his dad pointed out certain things and told his son that they would discuss those things later when they got home.

That evening the dad asked his son: “Son, did you see how poor those people were? Now son, what did you learn from what you saw today?”

The son replied: “Well dad, I think I learnt a lot! We have two dogs, they have four dogs and on the farm they have lots of space to run with the dogs. We only have a medium sized stand. We have a very beautiful swimming pool, but they have a river, they can swim and fish in it. We have electric lights, they only have candles and an oil lamp, but the stars seem much brighter out there on the farm. We buy any food we want, but they grow their own food and can pick it daily off the land.”

“Dad, we have walls and an electric fence to protect us, they have wonderful friendly neighbours. We have many books, encyclopedias, computers, magazines and iPads; they have the Bible and they read it as a family. We have lots of money and a very fancy home, but I learnt that it is not money or things that make one rich. It is all about simplicity and about having God in your life that really makes you rich.”

“Dad, today I actually saw how poor we are. Thanks for teaching me such valuable lessons about what life is really all about! Thanks dad, I learnt a lot.”
