Hope is a critical part of achieving a strategy when it is based on what is possible.
In Luke 1:26-38, the angel Gabriel appears to Mary to tell her that Jesus the Messiah will be born through her. She responds by saying: “How can this be since I have no (intimacy with any man as a) husband,” Luke 1:26 (AMP). Then in Luke 1:37 (AMP), Gabriel says: “For with God nothing is ever impossible and no word from God shall be without power or impossible of fulfillment.”
Many people have debated that selling hope is not a good strategy. However, Biblical hope is the belief that something is possible. In 1 Pet. 1:3 we read: “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead”. “Begotten us again” refers to the New Birth where the same Greek verb is rendered “having been Born Again”. The living Christ makes possible a living hope to those who are born again.
In South Africa, at this time we cannot sell hope on the strength of a political party or on the strength of land reform or on the possibility of scrapping the toll gate system. Our only hope lies in being Born Again into the living hope of the One who conquered death and rose again. When people feel lost, uncertain, and troubled in their careers and lives, all they need is a dose of hope. South Africa is definitely in need of hope at this hour.
Much like happiness, hope is an emotion that comes and goes. It requires an individual to make good choices to sustain its positive impact.
As a result, you make certain decisions about what to believe or who to believe or who you will associate with. In the past, we’ve had leaders who have told us that everything will be fine while they are leading, but if Jesus Christ is not their source of Living Hope, their promises will be empty.
People search for hope to recapture that moment in time when they felt their best; they had minimal financial, personal and workplace problems, and life seemed much less complicated and much less stressful. As we all know, in life you’re either solving a problem, coming out of a problem or heading into a problem, and without hope, all will seem hopeless.
Hope alleviates the pressure points throughout life’s journey. Hope for the future of our city and our country holds tremendous power, especially because it is anchored in Jesus, the Hope of the ages.
