OPINION: Words of faith
Are your words and thoughts acceptable to the Lord? In Psalm 19:14 David says: “Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O Lord, my Strength and my Redeemer.” David wants his words and his thoughts to be consistent with God’s words and God’s thoughts because …
Are your words and thoughts acceptable to the Lord? In Psalm 19:14 David says: “Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O Lord, my Strength and my Redeemer.”
David wants his words and his thoughts to be consistent with God’s words and God’s thoughts because God’s words are words of spirit and life.
Proverbs 18:21 (AMP) says: “Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and they who indulge in it shall eat the fruit of it (for death or life).”
As far as God is concerned there is acceptable and unacceptable talk. Being your own judge; where do you stand?
Luke 6:45 (NLT) says: “A good person produces good things from the treasury of a good heart, and an evil person produces evil things from the treasury of an evil heart.” What you say flows from what is in your heart, so be careful what you allow in your heart.
As far as God is concerned, death talk, problem talk, negative talk, faultfinding talk and accusation talk is not acceptable, because He doesn’t want you to eat and be a partaker of your own negative talk.
When we consider the life of Cain in Genesis 4:1-7 he brings an unacceptable sacrifice to the Lord and because the Lord doesn’t accept his sacrifice he gets very angry.
He doesn’t say anything, but grumbles in his heart.
The Lord speaks to Cain and says in Genesis 4:7: ”If you do well will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin lies at the door. It desires to have you, but you should rule over it.”
God was essentially saying: Cain if you do not master this sin of anger, anger will master you.
Unfortunately, Cain allowed the anger to grow in his heart until he eventually killed his own brother, Abel.
James 1:19-20 says: ”So then my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath (anger). For the wrath of man does not produce the righteousness of God.”
Anger that springs from self-centeredness and self-righteousness does not accomplish the righteousness of God, but is conducive only to hellish destruction.
Cursing and death talk starts in our hearts and when our hearts change, our words change.
That is why Proverbs 4:23 (AMP) says: “Keep and guard your heart with all diligence and above all that you guard, for out of it flows the springs of life.”
I conclude by asking: What are you known for at home, at work, with your friends and with your acquaintances?
Are you known as one who speaks positively, one who speaks life, speaks answers, and speaks hope, or are you known as a complainer, a grumbler, a faultfinder, a death speaker or an accuser?
Philippians 2:14 (AMP) says: “Do all things without grumbling and faultfinding and complaining (against God) and questioning among yourselves.”
