Local Sports Agency Levergy strongly believes that the key to future sporting success in South Africa lies in unlocking the talent at grass-roots level.
Having been involved in the leveraging of high level sports and grass-roots development for numerous years, they are all too aware of the current challenges that exist in the grass-roots space and therefore have been focusing heavily on looking at new and innovative ways to ensure a more sustainable approach with more tangible results.
The Sports Ministry has called for a more sustainable approach to talent identification and elite performance management, and Levergy aims to answer this call. In addition, new technology will be introduced in order to lift performance standards for the future.
Levergy CEO, Clint Paterson, said that the major challenge the country has with talent identification and grass-roots development is that, despite some of the wonderful programmes in place, it’s all too fragmented.
“There is no cost-effective system in place that allows for keeping a record and managing the performance of all the potential talent within a specific sporting space.”
With this in mind, Levergy has launched Next Generation.
Using highly evolved, state-of-the-art technology and online resources, Next Generation aims to become the largest interactive talent identification and visual analysis database of athletes from numerous sporting codes across South Africa.
“The technology we have used in our programme is used by some of the world’s biggest and most successful sporting federations, teams and athletes, like the American and British Olympic teams, Usain Bolt and Manchester United, to name a few.”
The goal of Next Generation is ultimately to enhance the existing grass-roots platforms in place and make them more effective by consolidating all the content.
Focus will also shift to providing an easy to use interactive online search engine that can provide comprehensive online visual footage and statistics across the various grass-roots sporting platforms.
Next Generation will be able to store, track and provide personalised video, video analysis and stats of players and/or positions captured from the selected grass-roots platforms.
Utilising the easy to use options on the platform, players, coaches, teams and federations will be able to search, view, track, monitor and share related content online.
“Our first phase was successfully launched on the back of the Easter rugby festivals where we now have personalised visual analysis and clips of more than 130 of the top schoolboy rugby players who participated” said Paterson.
He added that this was only the start.
“We’re already working on expanding this programme into soccer and cricket and hope to then include even more sporting codes.”
Paterson concluded that Levergy is committed to making a meaningful and sustainable contribution to the national development of sport and talent identification and performance, believing that Next Generation will revolutionise talent identification in the future.
“By winning the technology war, you not only stay one step ahead of your opponents, but you also win the respect of your athletes, who feel confident they are being coached by a team breaking new ground.”
