Matsatsantsa support Breast Cancer Awareness Month
Matsatsantsa a Pitori are going pink in support of a good cause. The team has been wearing pink armbands in their games to raise awareness of breast cancer.
Breast cancer is an issue close to SuperSport United’s heart, and its players boldly supported Breast Cancer Awareness Month by wearing pink armbands during their previous matches.
With some of the players having lost family members to the illness, the club has donned pink armbands and jerseys to raise awareness among its fans, especially since October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. United will take to the pitch with a pink armband showing their support in their next league game against the Free State-based club, Bloemfontein Celtic, on Sunday afternoon.
The Tshwane-based side’s coach, Cavin Johnson, voiced his full backing for the move. “We are delighted to be playing a part in the fight against breast cancer as a football club.
There is so much that we can still do, but we are making an effort,” he said. He further stated that he thought the display of pink was a step in the right direction for the club that showed that they were on board for the fight against breast cancer.
The SuperSport franchise as a whole will take part in the iThemba walkathon, a walk against breast cancer, on 27 October at the Marks Park Sports Complex.
Matsatsantsa vice captain, Thabo September, backs the awareness campaign fully, and is encouraging others to get behind the campaign as well. “Hopefully our involvement will raise awareness and help those suffering from breast cancer,” said the SuperSport defender. United is the only league club in the country campaigning for breast cancer awareness.
