Downs sink AmaTuks

Mamelodi Sundowns defeated Pretoria University 3-1 in an exciting Absa Premiership encounter.

The Mamelodi Sundowns football club is now in an even better position to win the Absa Premiership league this season following their excellent match over the weekend.

The Brazilians extended their lead by two points ahead of SuperSport United when they defeated the University of Pretoria 3-1 at Tuks Stadium on Saturday.

They also have a match in hand, which gives them even more of an advantage.

In nine matches, they have accumulated 20 points, while SuperSport, second on the log, have 18 points in 10 matches.

Another threatening team is Orlando Pirates.

Even though the Buccaneers are at the bottom of the log with only four points, they have seven games in hand.

They are recovering from the disappointing 2-0 loss to Al-Ahly in the CAF Champions League final on Sunday, which makes them even more dangerous, as they will be fighting to retain their dignity. Back to the match between the Brazilians and AmaTuks, Cuthbert Malajila, Khama Billiat and Rodney Ramagalela wrote their names on the scoresheet to give the Brazilians a well deserved 3-1 victory.

Downs’ hunger for victory became clear in the 3rd minute when Malajila found the back of the net.

The hosts fought back like a wounded tiger and levelled the score in the 7th minute, thanks to Grant Kekana.

Kekana fired a grass-cutting shot from close range after a corner kick from Siyabonga Ngubane.

Downs took the lead again in the 29th minute after Billiat finished Bonani Zungu’s through-pass.

Pitso Mosimane’s men extended their lead in the 3rd minute of injury time when Malajila played a low cross for Ramagalela to put the goalkeeper into action.

The Brazilians will face the Black Aces at the Kees Taljaard Stadium on 4 December at 19:30.
