Irene tournament celebrates Wimbledon

It is almost time for the annual Renault Grass Court Event, arguably the biggest tennis event on the local calendar. Tennis enthusiasts travel from all over South Africa, to attend this truly exciting and spectacular event.
The event aims to give local South Africans a taste of the Wimbledon Championships grand slam, which takes place during the same period.
Spectators and participants will be forgiven for assuming that they are at the actual international grand slam, as the Renault Grass Court Event encapsulates the spirit of the Wimbledon Championships. Traditional white attire is sported, accompanied by bubbly, strawberries, cream and much more. Everybody is welcome, participants and spectators can indulge in cake and tea, burgers, boerewors rolls and beverages, including the famous Pimms and Lemonade for the adults.
There are two main events, namely the Open event (21 and 22 June), and the Junior event (28 and 29 June).
An exhibition match will be played with former professional players, displaying a truly international level of tennis for all to enjoy.
On the Saturday evening of the open event, the official event dinner will take place and everybody is welcome. Great food will be served, to the warm atmosphere of blazing bomas and the entertaining tune of local celebrity musician Cunning Brad.
Participants stand a chance to win prizes from the total pool valued at upward of R 20 000, thanks to generous corporate partners.
There will be raffles, ensuring everybody stands a chance to walk away with a prize.
