Local soccer players have opportunity to go to Dubai
Interactive Sport will host a full day 5-a-side soccer tournament in Pretoria on Sunday, where players can stand a chance to go to Dubai.
Dusting off your soccer boots and participating in a 5-a-side soccer tournament scheduled to take place at Urban Soccer Field in Hatfield, Pretoria, on Sunday could be your ticket to Dubai.
Interactive Sport will host a full day 5-a-side soccer tournament, starting from 8:00 until late in the afternoon.
The tournament is part of a series of nationwide soccer events to select a team to represent South Africa in the world finals in Dubai from 23 to 25 April.
Speaking on behalf of Interactive Sport, Nqobile Mabaso said the winners gain a trip to Dubai, all expenses paid.
“The winners will play against the world’s best 5-a-side footballers. The overall winners will win an all expenses paid trip to the Olympics in Berlin,” Mabaso said.
Mabaso said they also had a competition for the entire community and all it takes is to like their Facebook page ‘F5WCsouthafrica’. The winner will act as an ambassador and advocate for the team and will win an all expenses paid trip to Dubai to support the local team.
The selection process started in Midrand Arena in August last year and, so far, only 19 teams have been selected and 13 more are still to be selected before the country’s finals will be played. The venue for this event will be confirmed on 29 March.
Organisers of the national soccer event are planning to take the tournament to Durban soon after the Pretoria games have been played.
Mabaso described last year’s tournament in Dubai as a huge success.
“Two of our players who participated in the tournament were invited to trials at Manchester City and Chelsea,” she said.
The 2014-champions were the Denmark-team. The South African team was kicked out of the competition after reaching the top 16.
