Pupils of Mogale Primary School in Mamelodi East attended a one-day sevens rugby training clinic last Wednesday.
The clinic was held at PVM sports ground in Mamelodi West, Section D6.
The event was hosted by Blue Bulls sevens development coach, Marinus van der Watt and former u.19 Blue Bulls player, Sydney Malele. “The training camp is a programme that will change and improve activity and culture in the previously disadvantaged community of Mamelodi,” said project manager of the training camp, Rearabilwe Mogashoa.
“It is aimed at helping uplift a sports activity culture in our community and to introduce schools and the community at large to the exciting fast-paced shorter format and shorter versions of different sports including rugby, cricket and netball in a more formalised manner,” Mogashoa said.
The camp is a build-up to the launch of a non-profit company that will solely focus on the development of the shorter formats of above-mentioned sporting codes for the previously disadvantaged community of Mamelodi on a more permanent basis.
“We are planning to have at least two training clinics per month with different schools in Mamelodi and choose players who will play for the Mamelodi Wildebees sevens rugby club,” Mogashoa said.
