Sport highlights, 27 – 29 March
Despite all the excitement and disappointment of the Cricket World Cup, with the dawn of the school holidays, there is still enough sports action to look forward to in and around Pretoria this weekend.
With the Proteas‘ loss in the past week against the Black Caps in the cricket World Cup, the team’s commitments for the current season have also come to an end.
The domestic cricket season also comes to a close officially this weekend, with the last games in the four-day Sunfoil series being completed. However, these matches are still of interest, as the Highveld Lions are already certain the trophy will stand in their display cabinet for the next year. Cricket lovers who want to see the Titans in action for the last time this season (against the Knights) are welcome to visit SuperSport Park daily from 10:00 until Sunday.
Local schools rugby and club rugby take a break this weekend and rugby supporters will be dependent on the action in the Vodacom Cup series and SupeRugby. The action begins on Saturday at 16:30 at Loftus Versfeld when the Blue Bulls and Pumas tackle one another in the Vodacom Cup series. The SupeRugby match between the Bulls and the Crusaders will start at 19:10.
Pretoria’s fitness fanatics have a choice of two races this weekend. On Saturday the Denel Athletics club presents the Denel Road Race at their Irene campus. This race offers a choice of three distances: a 21km half-marathon, a 10km race and a 5km fun run.
On Sunday, the Kosmosdal Athletics Club presents two fun runs at the Kosmosdal Checkers shopping centre. Runners can choose between a 5km fun run and an 8km race. Both races will start at 06:30.
