Mamelodi Sundowns beat Zamalek 3-0 in the first leg of the CAF Champions League final on Saturday afternoon.
The game took place at a packed Lucas Moripe stadium in Atteridgeville.
Within the first few minutes Zamalek had their work cut out for them as Sundowns players such as Keagan Dolly and Khama Billiat took possession of the ball yearly on.
An early goal from Anthony Laffor made things easier for the home side and the team’s theme song Kabo Yellow was sung from every section of the stadium.
A shot from Teboho Langerman saw the home side extend their lead just before the halftime break.
Pitso Mosimane urged his troops to keep attacking as the Zamalek defence was found in sixes and sevens in the second half.
Sundowns however, retained their fighting spirit and it was Percy Tau who scored the third goal for the afternoon.
The second leg will be played in Egypt next week with the Sundowns firm favourites to win the league.
The last South African team to win a CAF Champions League was the Orlando Pirates in 1995.
