Struggling Royal Kings FC already planning for next season
Royal Kings have had a tough campaign so far, failing to get a single win from their eleven games.
Bottom-placed side Royal Kings FC has chosen to look at the positives from what has been a difficult season for the team.
With the league entering its final stretch and teams battling it out for the promotion/play-offs, Royal Kings find themselves rooted at the bottom of Mabopane football league.
“We will take a few positives from our season. We know too well how fortunes can change from one season to the next,” said the team’s coach, Pako “PK” Lorekang.
Royal Kings have had a tough campaign so far, failing to get a single win from their 11 games.
They sit at the bottom with two points after drawing two of their matches.
On Sunday, in a match played at Letlotlo sports grounds, Royal Kings suffered a 4-0 loss to log leaders, Maa Waa FC.
But despite their recent struggles, coach Lorekang feels that there is a lot of positives to take from their season.
“We have had a number of challenges, but we hope to build from that experience. We are confident that we will come back stronger next season,” he said.
He said some of the challenges that the team has faced was the lack of players and resources such as playing kits and soccer balls.
“Our senior team shares a kit with our under-17s and we share a ball with the junior sides. Sometimes we come to training and find that the young ones are still using the ball. What can you do, you have to wait,” Lorekang said.
The team trains at Nomonde sports ground in block X in Mabopane.
“Some of our players are in matric, after matriculating they go to varsity and they cannot play for us anymore. We need players who are committed to the team, players who can be with us for two to three years,” he said.
He said the team has had to search around areas such as Klipgat, Lebanon, as well as block C, for players.
“Our players come from across the township. Sometimes it is not easy to get all of them and in time when we have a game,” he said.
Even when new players joined, it was not easy to get them to gel with the rest of the team.
“We need to be consistent. We need players that are committed to the team, players who can be able to execute our game plan very well,” Lorekang said.
He appealed to community members to help the team with resources.
“We will appreciate any kind of help at the moment, be it soccer balls, soccer kit and so on,” he said.
