Tuks confirm their supremacy as SA’s best university cricket team

The Tuks cricket team is on their way to the Red Bull Campus Cricket World Champions again, after they won the inaugural Varsity Cricket tournament in Potchefstroom last weekend.

There is seemingly no end to the achievements of the University of Pretoria’s (Tukkies) first cricket team.

Captain Heinrich Klaasen and his team have won the inaugural Varsity Cricket tournament last weekend in Potchefstroom to add this title to their impressive performances of 2014.

After Tuks surprisingly lost to the University of the Western Cape early in the tournament, they managed to sort themselves out and eventually end at the top of the log. In the semi-final they crushed the University of Johannesburg (UJ) by 59 runs to reach the final, setting up a clash with old arch enemy, the University of Stellenbosch (Maties).

In the final, the team of Pretoria easily won by five wickets and achieved their third win in a year against Maties in a major tournament.

In July last year Tuks was crowned Red Bull Campus Cricket World Champions at the Kia Oval in London after they beat the West Indies by 40 runs in the finals of this international student’s tournament. This has made possible after they beat Maties in Pretoria to be designated the South African Champions in the Red Bull Campus Cricket series.

In December the Tuks cricket team beat Maties again to be crowned as the University Sport South Africa (USSA) cricket champions.

This victory of the Tuks team means they qualify to represent South Africa again at the Red Bull Campus Cricket World Champions, which will be hosted by India this year .
