Mamelodi rugby players needed

Rugby players in Mamelodi invited to join Stanza Bopape Rugby.

A rugby club in Mamelodi East strives to teach young people not only about rugby but also about life skills in general.

“We offer a lot at Stanza Bopape Rugby. We also have programmes whereby we teach the youth about life skills and social issues,” Peter Moyo, founder of the club, said this week.

The club was formed in 2009 and introduced and sustained schools rugby in Mamelodi East, working with the Blue Bulls rugby team.

It trained pupils from primary and secondary schools in Mamelodi East from Monday to Friday. Training sessions started at 16:30. The club is based at Stanza Bopape Rugby pitch at Extension 5 Mamelodi East.

Moyo said the club had boy teams from u.10 to u.18 and the girl teams from u.16 and u.18.

“We have achieved a lot since the club was formed. Fourteen of our girls have been promoted to the u.16 and u.18 Blue Bulls rugby outfit. Two boys from the u.15 division got scholarships and play for the Blue Bulls Iqawe team.”

Other programmes on offer at the club included coaching skills and administration of the sport.

Moyo urges local businessmen to help with training equipment, rugby balls and rugby boots.
