Titans, the new Momentum one day Cup Champions
The Titans disappointed fans because they could not secure a home semi-final.
Cape Cobras’ captain, Justin Ontong was elected to bat first against the Titans in the Momentum One Day Cup Final at Sahara Park Newlands, Cape Town on Friday afternoon, 13 February.
The Cobras looked to set a mammoth total after a 180 run opening partnership between Levi and Puttick. Things started falling apart after the departure of Levi in the 32nd over and they could only manage to add 105 runs for innings total of 285 runs.
The Titans had to pull off the highest successful run-chase at Newlands te be crowned champions. With four wickets down and 60 runs on the scoreboard, the Titans needed a little bit of magic to pull off a win. Dean Elgar and Albie Morkel stepped in and built a record fifth wicket partnership of 195 runs to steer them to a win in the 48th over.
Winning the cup final made it so much more special, after fans were disappointed that the Titans could not manage to secure a home semi-final and ended up playing the Dolphins in Durban. They came out on top which set up the final in Cape Town against the Cobras.
