PSL title race heats up
Mamelodi Sundowns have won their third game in a row on Wednesday to put pressure on log leaders Kaizer Chiefs.

Mamelodi Sundowns, Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates each won their matches on Wednesday evening as the Absa Premiership soccer league race heats up.
Mamelodi Sundowns thumped Chippa United 3-0 at Loftus Versfeld, moving to 46 points on the table, eight behind Chiefs, who also won their match 3-0 against Moroka Swallows. Sundowns started the match strongly and within four minutes Chippa were on the backfoot as Mbhuyiselo Sambu scored a goal that made things easier for the Brazilians. Sundowns pushed on from there and both Antony Laffor and Khama Billiat wasted good chances to make it 2-0 on the hour mark. After half-time Sundowns continued to attack the Chilli boys and a clumsy challenge from Manti Moholo saw Siyanda Zwane falling inside the penalty area. The referee had no choice but to award a penalty.
Teko Modise made no mistake on the spot to make it 2-0. Chippa tried to fight back with William Thwala coming close. Sundowns finished the game off when Rodney Ramagalela rounded the keeper to make it 3-0 in the 90th minute. With seven matches to go, Sundowns will fancy their chances of retaining the league as they have a game in hand and they still have to play Chiefs in April. Pirates have an outside chance of winning the league though, as they are three points behind the Brazilians. The Buccaneers have also played both Chiefs and Sundowns, so they will depend on the two teams above them to lose points for them to win all their remaining six matches, which is unlikely. Sundowns will then turn their attention on the Nedbank Cup as they do battle with Platinum Stars at the Royal Bafokeng on Sunday while SuperSport United will await Pirates at the Peter Mokaba stadium on Saturday night.
