Dream Team Football club were crowned champions of Yonke Into Ihlangene Easter Tournament after beating Galaxicos Football club 4-2 on penalties.
The four-day Easter soccer tournament from 3 April to 6 April and was held at Mamelodi East Pitch Sports ground.
The tournament had been running for the past 17 years and 16 teams took part this year.
The winning team walked away with R35 000 and Galaxicos were rewarded R20 000. The runner-ups were awarded R5 000 each.
The tournament was attended by Tshwane mayor Kgosientso Ramokgopa, Tshwane chief whip Jabulani Mabona, mayoral committee member of sport Nozipho Tyobeka Makeke, ward councillors, Joel “Fire” Masilela, Malombo Lechaba and former Kaizer Chiefs player Teenage Dladla.
Tournament organiser Lungi Madonsela said: “The tournament was founded to give the youth of Mamelodi a chance to showcase their talent and to leave behind all negative thoughts of crime, drugs and other things.”
“We will support them and we want to see them become professionally players one day. I am very happy to see both the MMC, chief whip and the mayor at this year’s tournament. It’s an honour and also I would like to say thank you to the city for their contribution,” said Madonsela.
Dream team club captain Stanley Msiza said his team had trained hard to win the match.
Ward 18 councillor Funny Mbele said: “I am very happy to see the city of Tshwane leaders came and support the Kasi games and it is an honour. It shows this tournament is going somewhere and it is growing.”
