UP-Tuks were forced to work hard for their 59-48 Varsity Netball win over NMMU in Port Elizabeth on Monday.

It was a bonus-point win for the Pretoria side who bounced back well from their defeat to Kovsies, while the Madibaz finished with no log points to show for their efforts having narrowly missed out on a bonus point.

There was little separating the teams in the early stages of the match as the Madibaz managed to keep in touch with UP-Tuks in front of an enthusiastic home crowd. The visitors managed to get their noses in front thanks to some clinical finishing up front to take a slender 13-11 lead into the first break.

NMMU made a storming start to the second period, scoring seven unanswered goals to take control of the match, forcing UP-Tuks to call for a time-out to try and settle things down. They managed to regroup well and by the time the first powerplay was called they were back in front with a 24-19 lead.

NWU-Pukke kept their semi-final hopes alive with a 69-37 win over a plucky UCT side in Potchefstroom on Monday. The Capetonians made life difficult for the home side in the first quarter and they even had a good lead before Pukke increased the tempo after half-time to pick up a valuable bonus-point win. 

Maties continued their impressive form when they smashed VUT 83-19 in Stellenbosch on Monday to secure their fourth win and fifth bonus point of the campaign. The Stellenbosch ladies got off to an explosive start and outscored VUT in each quarter as the Vaal ladies suffered their fifth defeat of the tournament.

Kovsies continued their unbeaten Varsity Netball run when they handed UJ a 69-37 defeat in Bloemfontein on Monday. The defending champions top the standings and it was clear why as they put on a clinical display against a spirited UJ outfit at the Callie Human Hall.
