German coaches boost Pretoria football
Around 500 pupils from 35 schools around Pretoria braved this week’s hot weather to participate in a six-day Kick and Code camp at the Deutsche Schule Pretoria.
Pupils from 35 schools around Pretoria have a unique experience after being exposed to international football skills, thanks to the Kick and Code camp.
The week-long camp which runs until Saturday, at the Deutsche Schule Pretoria and surroundings, provides a once in a life-time opportunity to around 500 young stars of being trained by German professional soccer coaches.
The programme, made possible by the Systems Applications and Products (SAP) Africa with SA Football Association (Safa), Eintracht Frankfurt and Football for Worldwide Unity, was officially opened on Monday.
Initiator Elke Simon-Keller said it was important to develop football skills for children to create great soccer players of the future.
“I think soccer is the biggest sport on the African continent. There are many people who love it and we need to introduce soccer skills to them to produce great soccer players,” Simon-Keller said.
By rotating from the pitch to the lab, the programme actually covers three parts; soccer coaching, learning to build computer games and certify new coaches and teachers as Safa coaches or coding coaches.
Children participating in the programme are between the ages of 8 and 15.
The programme will also be extended to Mamelodi and Eersterust on Friday and Saturday.
