The Cue Masters Pool Club in Gezina is the biggest pool club in Gauteng North, boasting both national and provincial players as well as players on the world rankings.

The club is also home to African and World Champions.

The South African Open Pool Championships were held in Worcester recently. The Gauteng North Pool Association (GNPA) sent two teams down and 14 of the 18 players in these two teams were from Cue Masters.

It was the first time in six years that Gauteng North had both teams in the semi-finals and the first time in many years that they won the championships. Ironically, it was the Gauteng North B team who were crowned champions.

The B team included Solly Matebula (captain), Bosco Manakana, Alroy Seafield, Steven Nortje, Khutso Matiba, Jacque du Plessis, Hardus Hoon, Jaco Breetzka, Ettiene Viviers and Deon “Rooinek” Roberts (manager).

The two refs that went down for their team where both still under 18. They are Tyla Mundie and Dylan Coakley.

The B team beat Boland in the quarter finals and Cape Winelands in the semis. In the finals they beat Western Province.

The A team lost to Western Province in the semi-finals.

A few players also did very well in the singles. Both Tewis Joubert and Elroy Seafield made it to the top 16. Jakes van Zeegen won the Managers Competition.

The u.18’s and u.23’s also went to Worcester and participated in the South African Juniors Championships. However, they didn’t do as well as their seniors. Mario Naude (u.23) and Dylan Coakley (u.18) did make it to the top 16.
