Injured Nyakane withdrawn from Springbok squad, RG Snyman out for six weeks
Two key players from the Bulls were injured last weekend when they played for national teams.
Springbok prop Trevor Nyakane was on Tuesday withdrawn from the squad for this Saturday’s third Test against Ireland because of injury.
The prop suffered an ankle injury against Ireland in the second Test between the sides last Saturday in Johannesburg. Nyakane was sent for x-rays on Monday, which showed no fracture except for some swelling.
However, further assessment on Tuesday morning revealed that Nyakane will not be ready to be considered for Saturday’s final Test. A substitution to serve as extra cover for both the loosehead and tighthead positions, will be named in due course.
Nyakane joins No 8 Duane Vermeulen (elbow) and Lood de Jager (calf) on the injured list. All three players have left the Springbok camp.
The Bok management has confirmed that three players, Scarra Ntubeni (DHL Stormers), Nic Groom (DHL Stormers) and Garth April (Cell C Sharks), will return to their franchises on Tuesday afternoon.
The Springboks continued their preparations on Tuesday morning with an extended training session at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.
South Africa and Ireland meet on Saturday at 17h00 in the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in the deciding third Castle Lager Incoming Series Test.

* Meanwhile, the Bulls confirmed that the young lock, RG Snyman, can be out of action for up to six weeks after injuring his ankle on Friday when he played for South Africa ‘A’ against the England Saxons. He will therefore miss the rest of the Bulls’ campaign in the SuperRugby tournament.
