Sport Highlights 24 – 26 June
The Springboks, Proteas and Bafana Bafana will all be in action this weekend.
Rugby and cricket are again the main course on the weekend’s sports menu, while the world’s most popular tennis tournament also starts on Sunday.
Rugby
After the brave and exciting effort by the Springboks against Ireland last Saturday, where they wiped out a huge points backlog in the last 20 minutes to win, the third and last test in Port Elizabeth this weekend, will be the series decider. The tension will run high and both teams should give everything to win. The action starts at 17:00 on Saturday night.
Cricket
On Friday, the Proteas will play their last round robin game in the current West Indies Tri-Nation series against the home team. The Proteas will have to win convincingly if they are to qualify for the final. The game starts at 19:00 (SA time).
Soccer
The Cosafa Cup will be decided this weekend, at Sam Nujoma Stadium in Windhoek. If South Africa beat Swaziland in the first semi-final on Wednesday, they will play against the winner of the Botswana versus Democratic Republic of Congo in the final on Saturday at 18:00.
* Soccer fans who are not interested in the Cosafa Cup, can watch the action in the Euro 2016, which will also reach the last sixteen stage this weekend.
Athletics
The 20th Africa senior championships will take place from Wednesday 22 to Sunday 26 June, in Durban. With the Olympics just around the corner (less than two months to go), excellent achievements can be expected of South Africa and Africa’s top athletes.
* The Run/Walk for Bibles half marathon takes place this weekend on Saturday 25 June. The event consists of a 21,1km half marathon, a 10km road race and a 5km fun run, all starting and ending at Hoërskool Zwartkop in Centurion. The late Riana van Niekerk, who died earlier this year, from cancer, will be honoured on race day. The main race starts at 07:30.
Tennis
The 130th Wimbledon tennis championships starts this Sunday. This means that tennis fans can look forward to two weeks, of top action on the grass courts of the most famous tennis club in the world.
