Blue Bulls to ‘Up Their Game’ on Casual Day

The Blue Bulls promised that they will be ‘Upping their Game’ in support of the Casual Day campaign when they play against the Lions on Friday.

On Friday, 2nd September the Blue Bulls will go head-to-head with the Golden Lions at Loftus Versfeld for a Currie Cup premier division clash.

The significance of this game is the pledge by the Blue Bulls to dedicate the game in honour of South Africans with disabilities and to support the national Casual Day campaign, which takes place on the same day of the match.

The 22-year old campaign is celebrated every year to help raise funds and awareness in support of persons with disabilities. The 2016 Casual Day theme, “Up Your Game”, calls on every individual or organisation to donate R10 for their official Casual Day sticker to allow them to gear up in sports attire to support persons with disabilities, and the Blue Bulls have more than taken up this challenge.

Shanil Mangaroo, head of marketing at the Blue Bulls, expressed delight on behalf of the team and management at being able to assist with this amazing cause.

“Our friends at the NCPPDSA have done superb work over the years in building the casual day concept into something that is eagerly anticipated on a annual basis. We are extremely excited about our involvement, and are really looking forward to getting the #BullsFamily behind it.  Among a host of other initiatives, the team will be playing ‘delivery boys’ on 31 August, personally delivering casual day stickers and game day tickets to sponsors and partners. This will be structured as a lighted-hearted and fun event based on the ‘Amazing Race’ concept. Fans are encourage to follow and share the day on social media using #UpYourGame, thus increasing the social awareness around the cause,” said Mangaroo.

Fans and supporters who attend the game will be able to donate R10 and get their official Casual Day stickers at the designated Casual Day stands or from volunteers who will be on standby in and around the stadium.

‘Up Your Game’ Casual Day T-shirts, hats, foam hands and other fun items will also be available at the Casual Day stands. All funds raised through the Casual Day campaign goes to empowering and supporting persons with disabilities and providing much-needed resources to beneficiaries of the cause.

Last year, Casual Day raised R27 million which is being used by participating NGOs to support persons with disabilities in terms of advocating for their rights, helping with accessibility to schools, health facilities and other resources like special equipment. This year the goal of the campaign is to raise R32 million to assist and support a wider community and even more beneficiaries.

“We are excited that the Blue Bulls will be ‘Upping their Game’ in support of the Casual Day campaign. This game will provide the Casual Day campaign with the platform needed to raise awareness for persons with disabilities. We hope that many fellow South Africans will be encouraged to support our cause that benefits over 500 NGOs and schools for persons with disabilities throughout South Africa. Thank you to the Blue Bulls,” said National Director of the National Council for Persons with Physical Disabilities in South Africa (NCPPDSA), founders of the Casual Day campaign.
