Sundowns had lost 2-0 to Kashima Antlers in the quarter-final on Sunday but coach Pitso Mosimane opted to stick with the same team for the Jeonbuk game.
Things did not go according to plan for the Pretoria side as they found themselves trailing by three goals before half-time.
Star player Percy Tau however, brought Downs back into the game by scoring after half-time.
That proved to be a consolation as Jeonbuk put the final nail in the Downs coffin scoring their fourth goal in the 89th minute.
The game was for fifth place as both teams had failed to reach the semis.
After winning the African title, Sundowns have produced mixed results including a shock loss to rivals Supersport United in the Telkom Knockout.
Downs have conceded six times in their two games in this competition and only scored a single goal.
