Pretoria part of a unique international race this weekend

Centurion will this weekend be the home of the South African leg of the international Wing of Life World Run.

The Wing of Life World Run is returning to South Africa and will be presented this Sunday (7 May) for the fourth consecutive year at SuperSport Park in Centurion.

This event is an endurance race like no other, challenging all runners that enter (from amateurs to professional marathon athletes) to really push themselves to the brink of their ability. The format of the race is completely original, with two distinct components that set it apart.

Firstly, the race takes place in 25 locations simultaneously, with Pretoria being the only African leg of the race. Therefore the event has an international field. South Africans start and race with thousands of participants from around the world – at 13:00 SA time – all running in varying light and weather conditions.

Another unique aspect is that the race has no finish line and no set distance. Instead, a catcher car chases down participants, ending their race as the car overtakes them. There are a men’s and ladies’ winner in each country, as well as a global men’s and ladies’ winner.

The Wing of Life World Run supports a great cause. One hundred percent of all entry fees globally go to the Wing of Life Foundation, which funds research projects to improve treatment for spinal cord injuries with the aim to ultimately find a cure.

The Event starts on West Street in Centurion. The venue will have many food and drink vendors as well as a beer garden. There will be a big screen for participants to follow both the local and international event. Toilets and shade to chill after the run will also be available.

Participants will follow a route through the outskirts of Centurion and pass through places like the Centurion CBD, Irene Farm, Olifantsfontein, Clayville, Ranjespark, Laezonia, Claudius, Zwartop and Eldo Meadows.
