Interprovincial Youth Club rugby tournament will be held in Pretoria

The official interprovincial Youth Club rugby tournament will be hosted in Pretoria for the first time since 2013.

South Africa’s largest interprovincial rugby tournament for youth clubs will be held in Pretoria next week.

The Blue Bulls Youth Rugby Association (BBYRA) was formed in 1985, which was later given full recognition by the Blue Bulls Rugby Union (BBRU) and are now fully affiliated to the Union with full voting powers.

The main aim of Youth Rugby at club level is to develop the game at all junior levels including those that do not have access to playing the game at the school where they attend. Youth rugby caters for all levels of players irrespective of ability, creed and race.

Numerous past and current Springboks, Super 15 and Currie Cup players learnt their rugby skills at the various Youth Clubs.

The tremendous ground breaking work done by the BBRU and its Youth Club Association, lead to the pioneering of an Interprovincial Youth Club tournament (ITP) amongst four different unions being initiated by the Blue Bulls Youth Rugby Association.

The BBRU recognized the successes of the Youth Association in the general development of the players across the broad spectrum and subsequently gave the approval to them to select fully fledged Blue Bulls provincial teams in the u.13, u.14, u.15, u.16 and u.18 age groups.

Players selected for the five provincial teams are given official Blue Bulls colours.

The 2017 IPT will be hosted by the Blue Bulls at Menlopark Hoërskool in Pretoria from 2 to 7 October.  The unions participating are KwaZulu-Natal (Duikers), the Lions (Rooibokke), the Falcons and the Blue Bulls.

The round robin fixtures will start at 10:00 every morning. On day one the Blue Bulls will take on the Falcons, while KZN Duikers will play the Rooibokke. On the second day the Blue Bulls teams play against the KZN Duikers and the Rooibokke take on the Falcons.  The last round robin games will take place on 5 October when the Blue Bulls take on the Rooibokke and the Falcons will measure forces with the KZN Duikers.

After this stage, the teams finishing first and second on the log will play the finals on Saturday 7 October. On the same day the two remaining teams in every age group will play for third and fourth place.

All the matches played on the A-field at Menlopark will be broadcast live onto the BBRU App which is available from the Play Store on your mobile device.

Secure parking will be available at Pretoria Boys High Old Boys Club at 378 Queen’s Crescent. For any other enquiries, contact Neil Burnard on 082-566-7916.
