SA Disabled Golf Open presented at golf course near Pretoria
The 2018 Canon South Africa Disabled Golf Open will be presented from next weekend at Magalies Park Golf Course at Hartbeespoort Dam near Pretoria.
Three top Dutch disabled golfers will this year be part of the 2018 Canon South Africa Disabled Golf Open which will take place at Magalies Park Golf Course from 13 to 18 May 2018.
The trio – comprising Tineke Loogman, Frans Harmsen and Leon Emmen – will join the field of esteemed golfers competing in the tournament commonly known as the highlight of golf for disabled players on the local calendar.
Some of the best golfers with disabilities from South Africa, United Kingdom and Namibia will all be participating in the 20th annual edition of this highly respected competition.
This will be the fifth time that Loogman will be participating in the South African disabled Golf Open, hosted annually by SADGA and sponsored by Canon South Africa. She boasts a handicap of 11.6 and is rated as one of the best female disabled golfers in the world. In 2016, she was presented with a medal by the mayor of her hometown of Amstelveen for her contribution to disabled golf.
Harmsen boasts a handicap of 11.7 and is no stranger to the South African Disabled Golf Open, having competed in the 2013, 2014 and 2016 editions. He has been playing golf since 2002 and has won the order of merit in the Netherlands on three occasions. Amongst his achievements are second place in the France Open (Le national), Finnish Open, English Open, Spanish Open and Chech Open. He has also taken third place in the Swedish Open and Chech Open.
In 2014, Harmsen played in the World Longest Drive in Nevada United States, hitting an impressive 267 Yards (244 Meters).
Emmen is new to disabled golf. He lost both of his legs due to a life-threatening sepsis in February 2015. As a starting recreational golfer before his illness, he was incredibly happy to be able to continue playing golf on his prosthesis.
