Pretoria schools dominate Twizza Super School Series finals

Seven schools from Pretoria finished among the top 10 in the finals of the Twizza Super School Series.

The Twizza Super School Series produced a riveting display of school’s track and field competition on Saturday at the TuksAthletics Stadium with Afrikaans Hoër Seunskool and Hoërskool Menlopark who eventually emerged as the top two schools of the series.

Affies was crowned best boys team, while Menlopark won both the titles as best girls team and best mixed team. Menlopark therefore will be claiming the coveted title of SA’s best athletics school.

Although these titles are not official and, as a result of the format of the series, have not been scientifically determined, Pretoria schools can boast about the overall performance during the series.

Affectionately dubbed the “North vs South” battle, the Twizza Super School Series grand finale saw 46 of SA’s leading athletics schools (1125 athletes) participate on the day.  Qualifying schools were required to enter 15 member teams (boys, girls and/or mixed) across two age groups u.17 and u.19.

Events that could be entered included:  100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m, short hurdles, long hurdles, long jump, triple jump, high jump, shot-put, discus and javelin for this age groups.

Other Pretoria schools who could finish among the top 10 mixed schools were Prestige College (Hammanskraal, second), Tuks Sport School (5th), Hoërskool Waterkloof (7th), Hoërskool Montana (9th) and Hoërskool Garsfontein (10th).

Five schools from Centurion also participated in the series. Among these five schools, Midstream College achieved the best result. Midstream College finished 13th in the overall category. Hoërskool Zwartkop was 18th, Hoërskool Eldoraigne 23rd, Hoërskool Centurion 24th, Uitsig High School 29th and Sutherland High School ended 31st.

Except for Hoërskool Montana, Hoërskool Oos-Moot was the only other participating school from the Moot and North of Pretoria to end among the top 30 teams. Oos-Moot ended 26th overall.
