Markram’s 149 puts Titans in strong position at SuperSport Park

Thanks to a strong performance by Proteas batsman Aiden Markram in the Titans' first innings against the Warriors at SuperSport Park, this team is in a solid position to achieve their third consecutive victory in the 4-Day Domestic Series.

After the Warriors won the toss on Monday and sent the Titans in to bat first, Aiden Markram in particular probably made them regret the choice later, when he scored a whopping 149 runs in his team’s first innings.

Markram’s innings made up almost half of his team’s total (320) when they were all out on Tuesday afternoon.

His 12th career century was the stand-out performance of a shortened opening day between the Momentum Multiply Titans and Warriors in the 4-Day Domestic Series at SuperSport Park in Centurion on Monday.

The Proteas batsman was in stellar form on day one, but he was unfortunately dismissed on Tuesday morning with the very first ball he received from Marco Jansen.

Good contributions by Dean Elgar (20), Sibonelo Makhanya (26) and Rivaldo Moonsamy (35) helped the Titans score the solid total of 320 in 87 overs.

By Tuesday afternoon, the home team’s bowlers started to bring their side and by tea time the Warriors were at 160/4, thanks to wickets by Okhule Cele (2/30), Thando Ntini (1/36) and Dayyaan Galiem (1/26).

At that time the men of the Eastern Cape were on 160/4.

The Titans are therefore in a very strong position and if the bowlers can build on their performance, another victory may await Mandla Mashimbyi’s men.
