Warriors fight back with four half centuries to get first innings lead against Titans

The Titans bowlers let the team down and allowed the visiting Warriors to score a huge first innings total, after the Titans batsmen batted superbly on the first day of their 4-day game.

Thanks to four half centuries and a great batting by their middle order, the Warriors were able to score a great total in their first innings at SuperSport Park against the Titans to take the lead in the 4 Day Domestic series game between the two teams.

With contributions such as the 149 by Aiden Markram and 35 by Rivaldo Moonsamy, the Titans scored 320 in their first innings.

At that point, it looked like the men from Centurion were in a solid position, but unfortunately their bowlers did not put in a performance to match the team’s first innings with the bat.

With the exception of Grant Thomson (0/17 from 5.4 overs), Neil Brand (1/26 from 10 overs) and Aiden Markram (0/8 from 5 overs), the Titans’ bowlers were all fairly severely punished by the attacking style of the Warriors’ batting line-up in their first innings.

Sinethemba Qeshile (97) was the Warrios batsman who did the most damage, followed by their captain, Yaseen Vallie (80), Matthew Breetzke (53) and Lesiba Ngoepe (52).

Eventually the visitors were all out for 392 runs, giving them a first-innings lead of 72 runs.

By tea time on day three, the Titans were at 139/5 in their second innings, meaning they only enjoyed a 69-run lead.

At that point, only Markram (64) was still at the crease, while the rest of the Titans’ top-order batsmen were all dismissed fairly cheaply.

With Moonsamy then joining Markram, Titans fans would hope that the two could build a huge sixth wicket partnership to give their bowlers a chance to win the match on day four.
